Assistance with Start-Up Visa Applications

What is a Start-up Visa?

A Start-Up Visa is suitable for those who wish to establish an innovative business in the UK, regardless of their prior business experience. Even graduate students can apply for this type of visa.
The Home Office requires that the business is distinct from anything else currently available on the market. The Start-Up Visa is valid for two years and cannot be extended or used as a means to gain settlement in the UK.

However, individuals may be eligible to switch to an Innovator Visa after two years to continue developing their business in the UK. Those holding a Start-Up Visa may bring dependents such as a spouse, same-sex partner, and children under 18 to the UK.
During the two-year visa period, most of the individual’s time must be spent working on their new business. However, they may also engage in other work to support their livelihood.

What are the requirements for obtaining a Start-Up Visa?

To be eligible for a Start-Up Visa, the individual must be at least 18 years old, meet the CEFR B2 English language requirement (equivalent to IELTS 5.5 in reading, writing, listening, and speaking), have their business or business idea endorsed by an approved endorsing body, and have a unique, innovative, and viable business idea with growth potential. The individual must also have sufficient savings to support themselves while living in the UK.

How much does it cost to apply for a Start-Up Visa?

The fees for a Start-Up Visa include the application fee and healthcare surcharge fee. Additionally, a biometric fee of £19.20 (for fingerprints and photo taken) may be charged if the individual is switching to a Start-Up Visa within the UK. The fees for Start-Up Visa dependents are typically the same as for the primary applicant.

Endorsement for a Start-up visa

To obtain a Start-Up Visa, you must have your business idea evaluated by a UK endorsing body on its creativity, feasibility, and scalability. The endorsement letter must be obtained no later than three months before submitting the visa application.

It is important to note that the application must score at least 50 points to be considered for approval. The endorsing body must be satisfied that your business plan meets the following requirements:

Innovation: Your company idea should be unique and address new or existing market demands, giving you a competitive edge.
Viability: You have the necessary skills, expertise, experience, and market awareness to manage the business successfully, or are actively developing them.
Scalability: Your business plan has the potential to create jobs and expand into new areas across the country.
Our team at Work Permit Hub can assist you in identifying the most appropriate endorsing bodies for your application. We can also introduce you to several endorsing bodies with whom we have established relationships.
